World of Good

World of Good, is a fair trade wholesale and retail company looking for an enthusiastic Merchandiser to join our team. This position will report to our eService Program Account Director.

The Company

World of Good Inc. is successfully operating a wholesale business that places a full-service program of fair trade accessories and house wares into 1,200 retail locations and revenues that have increased by more than 75% from 2006 to 2007. In 2008 we will launch WorldofGood.com, an eBay marketplace – an online marketplace to create the world's largest platform for consumers to find people- and planet-positive goods from around the world. Through all of these activities, we are unified behind one mission — to alleviate poverty through commerce. The company has a strong leadership team and an excellent track record of aggressive sales growth since being founded in 2004 and has solid financial backing.

The mission of World of Good is threefold:

1. To make purchasing fair trade artisan products easy for consumers by making people- and planet- positive choices to the mainstream retail market
2. To help the communities and artisans that create these beautiful products by abiding by a set of stringent ethical sourcing standards
3. To educate consumers about fair trade and how commerce can be harnessed as a force for positive social change

The Products

Our products come to us from over 34 countries around the world and include fashion accessories, small gifts and housewares. Each item is beautifully handcrafted by talented artisans who are making a real living for themselves and their families through their skills as craftspeople. Our products change seasonally and are displayed on an in-store kiosk in our partner stores and on our retail website.

The Customer

Our wholesale customers include Whole Foods Market, Wegman's, Follett Higher Education Group, Borders Books and Music, and hundreds of independent retailers including bookstores, boutiques, salons, yoga studios, flower shops, and natural food stores. World of Good products are carried by over 1,200 stores nationwide.

Our end customer is a socially motivated individual who wants her/his purchasing choices to reflect her/his values. This customer buys our products because of their quality and craftsmanship and because of the story they tell. Through our products, we spread awareness about the importance and potential of fair trade to change lives in a fast-growing global marketplace.

The Role

WoG seeks a part-time Merchandiser to service area accounts for World of Good, Inc. This job involves calling on retail accounts on a regular basis, once every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on sales and season. Duties include:

• Meeting with the store buyer or manager; re-merchandising and general housekeeping of displays
• Taking inventory and sending it to the home office
• The position may also include merchandising product or packing returns
• Occasional store re-sets and installation of kiosks or new store sets

You

The ideal candidate for this position will possess retail and/or merchandising experience, seeking incremental hours, and have the following qualifications:

• Detail oriented, friendly, reliable, flexible, creative and able to merchandise without a schematic
• Good communication skills and an ability to work independently
• Access to a computer and either email or fax
• Transportation
• Some knowledge of fair trade or an interest in learning about it

Compensation: $20/hour, no mileage
