The Company & the Role
World of Good is an innovative and nationally-recognized for-profit company in the fair trade gift & accessories space with more than 1,200 retail partners including Whole Foods, Borders, and Follet Bookstores. We are rapidly growing, socially-conscious start-up based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are looking for a bright, hard-working intern with excellent research skills who can roll up their sleeves and join our sourcing team to help with a long-term, substantive project this Fall, and support on a variety of others.
The Project(s)
World of Good sources products from 134 different small artisan communities based in 30 countries across the world. Our product line encompasses a variety of materials from horn and mother of pearl to brass and glass beads. Product safety is a top priority for World of Good and our customers. We work to insure that all of the materials in our products are safe for use and meet all California and National health regulations. The primary intern project for this fall will be to participate in our product testing process and to help World of Good insure that we are meeting all product safety requirements.
At the end of the year, you will have gained a full understanding of US and CA health and safety regulations for jewelry, house wares and small gifts. You will also be trained to operate an extra fluorescence analyzer (for lead testing) and to interpret the results of the tests. Your work will help ensure that only safe, nontoxic materials are used in World of Goods products.
Other projects include support for product development and assisting in the creation of an educational manual on health and safety issues for artisan groups.
